Banquet Guest Speaker

Tim Besley is School Professor of Economics and Political Science at the London School of Economics (LSE), University of London. He held positions at Oxford and Princeton prior to joining the LSE as Professor of Economics in 1995. He is a fellow of the Econometric Society and the British Academy and a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Economic Association and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was co-editor of the American Economic Review and was a 2005 winner of the Yrjo Jahnsson award. His research has a strong policy focus and he gained practical experience of economic policy-making as a member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee between 2006 and 2009. He maintains an interest in global issues, especially the institutional factors that determine prosperity around the world.

A group rate of $130.00 (single or double occupancy), $150.00 (triple occupancy), $170.00 (quadruple occupancy) plus 13.4% tax is available for the following dates:  May 1, 2 & 3.

Transportation between the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and the Hotel

Public Transportation (LightRail and City Bus combo) costs $2.25 or $1.75 one way, depending on time of day. To plan your trip go to http://www.metrotransit.org/ and in the Trip Planner enter From "Airport Terminal 1 - Lindbergh Station" and To "McNamara Alumni Center" as well as the date and approximate time you expect to travel. Choose a trip option with only one bus after the LightRail stop. An additional transfer should not be needed. Or contact the hotel (612-379-8888) to see about the availability of the hotel shuttle to pick you up at the LightRail Metrodome Station.

Super Shuttle:  At the airport, follow the signs that say "Ground Transportation."  Once there, ask for the Super Shuttle.  Give them the name of the hotel you are staying at -- The Commons Hotel Minneapolis.  The charge is $18 per person one way.

Taxi costs about $35-45 one way.

Hotel Parking

Parking is available in the Washington Street ramp behind the hotel.  The daily parking fee is $15.00 per day per vehicle, which includes "in and out" privileges to registered overnight guests.

Hotel Shuttle Service

The Commons Hotel has complimentary shuttle service within a five-mile radius of hotel (based on availability. Shuttle charge may apply for groups and/or reservations).

The Commons Hotel is easily accessible from 35W and Interstate 94. It is located on the East Bank Campus of the University of Minnesota, only 1 block from the McNamara Center conference site.
